Ray Gardner came back to Pine Valley to "sell" Tad for $15,000 to the Martins. In 1975, Ruth and Joe Martin became his legal guardians until his natural parents could be located. In 1973, a 10 year-old Tad Martin was pushed out of the car and abandoned by his evil father, Ray Gardner, in a park near Pine Valley. He is one of the very few actors to be nominated in younger, supporting, and lead actor categories, all while portraying the same character. He won the Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Younger Actor twice in 19, and won the Supporting Actor trophy in 2001. Knight has won three Daytime Emmys for his portrayal of Tad Martin. Under secrecy, Knight returned for the first-season finale of Prospect Park's version of All My Children on September 2, 2013. His relationship with Dixie Cooney made them a favorite of fans, reaching supercouple status. He is perhaps the best male friend to Erica Kane. Tad represents the good on the show, often butting heads with "villains" like Adam Chandler.
